Friday Favorites: Field Trip Ideas

Hey everyone! We’ve made it through another week! Feels good! 🙂

Earlier this week, I was chatting with a fellow homeschool mom and we got around to talking about the new school year. After comparing some of our new curriculum choices, we got around to talking about field trips. Ya know, it’s funny. Somehow, I don’t know how it happens, but it happens that along the way we forget about going out on just for fun field trips. (It’s funny because that is one of the reasons I thought schooling my kids at home would be so cool!) Sometimes we get so caught up in our book studies and our regularly scheduled out-of-the-house classes that I forget about just-for-fun outings.

Field trip ideas in my planner

My friend called this to my attention when she asked to see my list of field trip ideas again. [Back when I was sharing my excitement about my new planner, I let her flip through it and I showed her my list of ideas.] It got me to thinking that I should share my list of ideas!

Here in central North Carolina, we are fortunate to have a multitude of day trip destinations available to us. Since Little Man is still napping in the middle of the day, we have to limit ourselves to what can be done in the morning before a mid-afternoon nap. [My friend also shares this struggle as she has a little one who naps a few times throughout the day.]

Right now, we are in the heat of the summer and trips that keep us outdoors are just NOT an option. (Seriously, we are dealing with heat advisories and heat indexes of up too 115 degrees Fahrenheit.)

Mostly, if not entirely, indoor:

*The Museum of Life & Science is one of our favorites! However, while half of it is indoors, the other half is outside…which happens to be some of our most favorite parts.

These next ones are a little farther of a drive but if you have a little one who will nap in the car (I don’t but I’ve heard it’s a thing 😉 ) then these will work too:

Ones better left for the fall or spring:

While this isn’t a conclusive list of great to-do’s in central NC, it’s a pretty good start. And I’m always looking for more things to add to our list! What are some of your go-to’s for field trips? I’d love to hear about anything I’ve missed!
